Under the Australia Awards Fellowships, Australian institutions are afforded the opportunity to seek funding for hosting and facilitating an array of professional development activities, ranging from work attachments to supervised research, management or leadership courses, study tours, program meetings, visits, or a combination of these enriching experiences. These fellowships exhibit remarkable flexibility and can span anywhere from a concise 2 weeks to an extensive 52 weeks.
They have been instrumental in various undertakings, from providing specialized training to Timorese doctors in endoscopy departments at leading Australian hospitals to equipping government officers from Vietnam with insights into coastal and marine conservation and sustainability.
Requirements:
For those aspiring to partake in the Australia Awards Fellowship, there are specific eligibility requirements set by the Australian organizations:
- Applicants should be at least 18 years old when commencing the Fellowship.
- They should not be permanent residents of Australia or in the process of applying for permanent residency, or be a partner of someone pursuing such status.
- Applicants must be citizens of one of the eligible countries.
- They should not be actively serving in the military.
- They must meet all the Department of Home Affairs’ requirements for DFAT-sponsored student visas subclass 500.
- Participants must be able to fully engage in the Fellowship.
- Fellows must be prepared to travel without family members, as DFAT exclusively funds and provides visa support for individual Fellows, not their family members. However, individuals with disabilities requiring assistance should travel with a designated carer.
Duration and Perks of the Scholarship
As a reward for their commitment and contribution, each Australia Awards Fellowship offers a financial grant of up to AUD $34,500 per Fellow, with a maximum limit of 15 Fellows.
- This funding encompasses various aspects, including:
- return air travel and relevant in-Australia travel,
- training costs
- accommodation and living expenses,
- medical insurance for the Fellowship holder during their stay in Australia,
- special assistance for individuals with disabilities and
- program overhead fees.

Southeast Asia: Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.
South Asia and Middle East: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iraq, Jordan, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestinian Territories, and Sri Lanka.
Pacific: Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Wallis and Futuna.
Africa: Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
Europe: Ukraine.
Please note that proposals for Brunei Darussalam, New Caledonia, French Polynesia, and Singapore will not be considered in Round 19.

It’s essential to note that the deadline for submission is 11.59pm (AEDT) on November 7, 2023.
